Helping children reach their full potential.
KidSkills specializes in occupational therapy assessment and treatment of children between the ages of 5 - 18.
Our expertise focuses on the full range of motor skills (gross and fine) and self-regulation.
We Specialize in
Pediatric Occupational Therapy.
Each child is different and every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential.
Our guiding principle is that with the right intervention and tools, provided at the right time of their personal development, any child can be better equipped to develop skills and overcome their challenges.
The KidSkills Pediatric Occupational Therapy clinic was established with this mission almost two decades ago and has since served hundreds of families throughout the Vancouver area and beyond.
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders which in many cases is attributed to genetics and continues throughout adolescence and adulthood.
Our clinic has extensive experience supporting children suspected or diagnosed with ADHD. Our intervention approach includes a unique method called the Cog-Fun (Cognitive-Functional) model, of which we are the first certified Canadian providers.
Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)
DCD is a medical condition in which there is marked impairment in the development of motor coordination, and the impairment significantly interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily living.
Often suspected at pre-school age, assessment and treatment for this condition have been proven to be most effective when undertaken as early as possible.
Self - Regulation
Children who struggle with self-regulation skills find it hard to adjust their behaviour to things that happen to them and around them in a socially expected manner. Their reactions may be impeded by challenges with sensory processing e.g., sensory hypersensitivities, emotional regulation difficulties such as low frustration tolerance and mental rigidity and lagging executive functioning skills e.g., poor response inhibition and self-monitoring skills.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Timely intervention in the form of Occupational Therapy during the formative years of a child's development can effectively address developmental gaps and strengthen life skills, self-efficacy and self-esteem, greatly benefiting the child's overall well-being.
We take a strength-based and play-based approach in our therapy for a wide range of issues. Individualized treatment is delivered in a safe and fun atmosphere, designed to provide the child with a supportive environment to develop their skills and confidence. We gradually lead the child from FUN to FUNction in partnership with the child's caregivers.
KidSkills offers a range of assessment services designed to confirm the existence of underlying developmental or sensory issues and suggest a course of action spanning the child's home and school settings.
“... Working with you has clarified how to approach setting goals with H...., what is realistic, how to involve her, how to track them, and how to motivate her and celebrate her successes ...”
